Artificial Turf in Ocoee, FL

A Lawn for a Full House

Ocoee households are large, at 3.13 people per home on average according to the Census (Orlando's figure is 2.41), and about 73.2% of homes are owner-occupied. A full house usually means a well-used yard, and that is what drives most requests for artificial turf in Ocoee: owners tired of patching bare spots, chasing weeds and reseeding where the dog runs.

Why sandy ground suits turf

Ocoee sits higher than much of the area, around 157 feet, on the kind of well-drained sandy upland the USDA describes for the Orlando soil series: fine sand to 80 inches or deeper with rapid permeability. That soil once supported citrus. Bluford Sims budded wild orange trees here, and his nursery shipped young trees across Florida and to California. Today the same sand drains well under a turf base, but it is loose. We compact crushed stone in layers so the lawn stays flat where people walk, play and park the grill.

Pet turf that does not smell in August

Dogs are a common reason Ocoee homeowners look at turf. Pet turf needs three things here: a backing that lets liquid pass straight through, a base that drains into the sand below, and an infill made to reduce odor. In the summer rain season, storms help rinse the surface. In the dry months, from roughly November through April, a weekly hose-down on the potty area keeps it fresh. We also set the edges tight against fences so diggers have a harder time.

Built in a growth spurt

Ocoee's population went from 12,778 in 1990 to 24,391 in 2000, 35,579 in 2010 and 47,295 in 2020. A lot of the homes from those decades now have lawns that have been resodded more than once, or synthetic turf installed years ago that has started to fade or flatten. Our repair and replacement work covers:

  • Re-securing seams and edges that have lifted
  • Cutting out and patching burned or stained sections
  • Leveling sunken areas where the base has settled
  • Full tear-out and replacement when the turf has reached the end of its life

Lakes and low spots

The city was named for Starke Lake, and it holds about a square mile of water within its limits. Homes near a lake or a stormwater pond can have a low corner that stays wet. We grade those areas so water moves away from the house and does not pond on the turf. A lawn that drains also helps with mosquitoes; Orange County Mosquito Control asks residents to tip out standing water because it is where mosquitoes breed.

What else we install

  • Putting greens for practice at home
  • Playground turf with padding under play sets
  • Commercial turf for offices and shared spaces along the SR 50 corridor

Watering rules

Ocoee is in St. Johns River Water Management District territory. Normally homes may irrigate twice a week in daylight saving time and once a week in winter, never between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Turf drops those zones, and we can cap the heads inside it.

Ocoee Numbers Behind the Work

  • Big households. Ocoee averages 3.13 people per household, and about 73.2% of homes are owner-occupied (Census ACS 2020-2024). Yards here get heavy use from kids and pets.
  • Nearly quadrupled since 1990. The population grew from 12,778 in 1990 to 47,295 in 2020, so many homes and lawns date from the 1990s and 2000s and are due for replacement or repair.
  • Citrus nursery roots. Bluford Sims budded wild orange trees in Ocoee, and his commercial citrus nursery supplied groves across Florida and shipped young trees to California, a sign of the area's well-drained sandy ground.
  • Named for its lake. The first settlement took its name from Starke Lake. The city covers about 15.61 square miles of land and about 1.06 square miles of water, with an elevation of 157 feet.

Ocoee Questions

How do I keep pet turf in Ocoee from smelling?

Start with a permeable backing, a draining base and an odor-control infill. After that, rinse the potty area weekly in the dry season and pick up solids daily. Summer storms do part of the work for you.

My synthetic lawn is about ten years old and looks flat. Repair or replace?

It depends on the blades and the base. If the blades still have color and the problem is matting or a few seams, a cleaning, re-infill and seam repair may be enough. If the backing is breaking down, replacement is the better value. We tell you which after we see it.

There is a low corner in my backyard that stays wet. Can turf fix that?

Turf alone will not, but the base work will. We regrade the low area, build up the stone base and, if needed, add a drain path so water leaves the yard instead of sitting under the turf.

Do you install front-yard turf in Ocoee subdivisions?

Yes, if your HOA allows it. The 2025 state law covers local governments, not HOAs, so check your covenants. Under section 720.3045, an HOA may not restrict items such as artificial turf that cannot be seen from the frontage, an adjacent parcel, common areas or a community golf course.
